About Allegra: Allegra (Fexofenadine HCL) provides symptomatic relief from seasonal allergic rhinitis and chronic idiopathic urticaria by affecting the body`s reaction to histamine.

How to use Allegra

Allegra (Fexofenadine HCL) provides symptomatic relief from seasonal allergic rhinitis and chronic idiopathic urticaria by affecting the body`s reaction to histamine. It is an antihistamine medication which is commonly referred to as a non-drowsy formula. Hay fever causes a runny nose, itchy nose and throat, sneezing and other symptoms. At certain times of the year (especially spring time), the symptoms listed above may be triggered due to grass and plants releasing pollen into the air.

The body treats this as harmful invaders and tries to fight them by releasing chemicals such as histamine. This in turn causes allergy chemicals to be released to the area affected, resulting in inflammation of the sinuses and nose, and the other uncomfortable signs of hay fever. The active ingredient in this medicine is a H1-receptor antagonist. This means that it blocks these receptors, and any histamine released by your body cannot attach itself to the receptors, thereby ameliorating the allergy signs.

A medical study even showed that other chemicals (such as thromboxane) that can affect the nasal passage are also blocked. Scientists have also carried out research on it, to explore its effects if used for mosquito bites (or bites from other insects), allergic coughing and other conditions. However, it is generally only used for rhinitis and urticaria.

Allegra Dosage

Allegra (Fexofenadine HCL) is available in different strength formulations so as to suit each patient`s individual requirements. It is available as 120mg or else 180mg tablets for oral administration. Your physician will examine the seriousness of your allergies and calculate the appropriate dosage based on this. Adults treating allergic rhinitis or chronic urticaria are sometimes told to administer 60mg twice per day or else 180mg once daily. Each tablet should be taken with a glass of water. Many physicians have stated that taking it without any fruit juices will allow it to work more effectively.
