About Duolin:
Duolin (Salbutamol/Ipratropium Bromide) is a medicine used to treat and manage obstructive airway diseases such as asthma, bronchitis, and emphysema. The drug is a combination of two different medicines which gives it a bronchodilatory effect useful in treating reversible bronchospasms in patients.
Because of the effect that combining the two medicine has on the drug, most physicians recommend patients to use this combined medicine in instances when more than one bronchodilator is required. Salbutamol which can also be referred to as USAN albuterol is categorized as a beta two adrenergic receptor agonist. Its main function is to target the smooth muscles within the airways and relax them. This directly affects the airways by opening them up. The other medicine that makes part of Duolin is Ipratropium bromide which is an anticholinergic type of medicine. Its general procedure of action involves the inhibiting of muscarinic receptors in the lungs. This, in turn, prevents the blocking of airways by a neurotransmitter called acetylcholine. The combination of these two medicines makes them more effective in treating and managing bronchodilation and other obstructive airway diseases as compared to the use of only one ingredient.
There are two different formulations for Duolin (Salbutamol/Ipratropium Bromide), and they come with different strength. These two formulations use to treat different severity levels of obstructive airway diseases, and it’s the physician that determines which formulation to prescribe after examining you. Depending again on the severity of symptoms, present medical conditions of the patient and medical history, a suitable dosage will be prescribed by the physician. The prescription will specify the amount of daily dosage. Patients are advised to adhere strictly to the physicians’ prescriptions and not to alter their dosages unless when advised by physicians. A Duolin Inhaler comes with about 200 doses, and it meters each dose it easy for patients to track the progress of the dosage.
