About Melanocyl: In cases of severe psoriasis, Melanocyl (Methoxsalen) - 10mg (40 Tablets) can be used alongside ultraviolet light therapy for treatment. This combination effectively reduces the number of cells produced by the skin hence managing psoriasis. The drug is also used to treat a number of skin diseases including vitiligo, eczema, cutaneous T-cell lymphoma, and psoriasis. The active ingredient in Melanocyl, methoxsalen, works by increasing the skin’s sensitivity to UV radiation hence changing the skin color.

How to use Melanocyl

Use this medicine as advised by your doctor and follow the dosage to the letter. It is advisable to take the pills with food or low-fat milk. Swallow the pill whole without breaking, chewing or crushing it. As explained before, Melanocyl 10mg tablets are taken along with UVA light treatment and the patient should take the pill two to four hours before the UVA treatment. Avoid sunbathing 24 hours before taking Melanocyl and wear UVA-absorbing sunglasses or cover exposed skin. You can also use sun block (SP15 or higher) for a period of 24 hours after taking Melanocyl. After UVA treatment, cover your body for durations of 8 hours until 48 hours after the treatment.

Melanocyl Dosage

The dosage and duration of the treatment will be determined by the doctor after assessing your condition, weight, and response to UVA therapy. Most times, Melanocyl is taken 90 minutes to four hours before UVA treatment. Do not use more tablets than prescribed and maintain the dosage to coincide with UV treatment for psoriasis. Avoid applying sunscreen to the affected areas before receiving UVA therapy.
